January 2007 - All Four Graduating Emerging Elites Set to Attend First Choice Colleges The Emerging Elite Class of 2007 is the strongest group the program has ever seen. All four graduating high school seniors – Mark Amirault, Caroline O’Loughlin, Chrissy Meagher, and Samantha Chase, have committed to run at an impressive list of Division I colleges this fall. These athletes have all have worked very hard to be recruited by some the best academic and athletic programs in the country. Congratulations to all four athletes and their parents! Mark Amirault will be attending Princeton University in the fall, upon graduating from Xaverian Brothers High School. Mark had an outstanding fall cross-country season and continues to impress his competitors and peers everyday. This past weekend Mark ran an impressive 4:11.26 to finish third in the Reebok Indoor Games American Track and Field Boys’ Invitational Mile, and the next morning he anchored the Xaverian 4x800 relay team to a win at the McIntyre Relays. He was admitted to Princeton under the Early Decision process and looks forward to running at one of the most prestigious Ivy League universities in the world. Mark says he’s “excited and relieved to have the college process behind me” as now he can place more focus on training for his final high school track season. Caroline O'Loughlin will go to Dartmouth College this coming September, after she graduates from Boston Latin School. She has been a stand-out leader on both her cross-country and track teams at Boston Latin and is eager to train at Dartmouth College as “it represents everything I want in a college: a top ranked running program coached by an excellent team, coupled with exceptional academics.” Caroline currently owns all BLS school records from the 800 to the 2-mile as well as the BLS Franklin Park record. Chrissy Meagher will attend the University of Connecticut after she graduates from Fontbonne Academy. She had a trying yet very successful cross-country season and has continued to improve her stamina and ability throughout the winter. Chrissy says, “I fell in love with UConn the second I saw it, and knew it was for me.” She is very excited to attend her top-choice school and to become a Husky this fall. Chrissy’s legacy at Fontbonne is considerable already. She owns all school records in track from the 800 to the 2-mile as well as the Franklin Park record and the Fontbonne home course record. Sam Chase will be attending Bucknell University after graduating from the Dana Hall School. She worked hard all season long and continues to improve her times during winter training. Sam is a neophyte in the sport as her school only offers cross-country. “I look forward to being on a team on a year-round basis,” she says. She’s looking forward to training at her first-choice school “because it has a great developmental program, so it’s perfect for me.” These four athletes will join recent graduates Eliza Gardiner, a junior at Harvard University, and Alec Bleday, a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania, in the list of remarkably successful alumni of the Emerging Elites program. We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to all four hard-working student athletes. We wish them each the best of luck and success through their final high school seasons and in their collegiate running careers. |
