November 18, 2006 – Cross Country Season Review With the season at a close, the Emerging Athletes have made their mark on scholastic regional cross-country. The High Performance Group made strong showing at the Massachusetts All Class Meets, the Divisional races and the MSTCA Invitational, as well as earning honors such as Globe All-Scholastic. The Developmental Athletes showed that they are emerging as highly competitive harriers. Hard work and determination will continue to bring these athletes up to a higher level of performance.
High Performance Athletes:Caroline O’Loughlin, Boston Latin SchoolCaroline had an impressive championship segment of her senior cross-country season. In the final 3 races of her high school career, Caroline broke 19 minutes in 2 of her 3 races while finishing 1st once and 2nd twice. She is a 3 time Globe All-Scholastic, was named Dual County League All-Star and team MVP at Boston Latin School. During Caroline’s first two terms of her senior year, she received special academic distinction by achieving a 4.1GPA each term. Caroline has been accepted early decision to Dartmouth University and will be running for the Big Green next fall.
Mark Amirault, Xaverian BrothersMark helped lead his team to its best finish in recent history at the Eastern Mass Divisional Championships, as the Xaverian team finished 5th in a very strong field lead by Xaverian’s long distance coach Bryan Dunn, a former protégé of Fred. After suffering from an injury mid-season, Mark came back to place 5th at MIAA All-State Championships, and was named a Globe All-Scholastic. Mark was named Globe Division 1 Runner of the Year in 2005. He will graduate this year as class valedictorian. Mark continues to be a straight A student and an inspiration to younger runners on his team. Mark has been accepted early decision to Princeton University and looks forward to joining the Tigers in the fall.
Christine Meagher, Fontbonne AcademyAs a senior, Chrissy led the Fontbonne Academy program to its strongest season in history. Despite battling through undetected anemia during the championship portion of the season, Chrissy still had a strong overall fall performance. She broke her own home course record with a time of 19:02 in the Catholic Conference League meet, as well as placing 1st in the Fontbonne vs. Notre Dame Academy with a time of 19:03. Chrissy was also undefeated in all her dual meets.
Samantha Chase, Dana Hall SchoolSam’s senior season running cross-country at Dana Hall, which was only her second, was her best yet. She beat her personal best and league best time at separate races and placed 3rd in the EIL League Championships. She suffered an injury while competing in the NEPSTA D2 Championships as she was passing a runner to take over 5th place, and was unable to finish the race. The fall cross-country season is Sam’s only opportunity to run for the school since they do not offer indoor or outdoor track.
Rhetta Nadas, Nobles & GreenoughRhetta, an alumna of Emerging Elites and junior at Nobles & Greenough, spent all summer competing both nationally and internationally in squash.
Developmental Program Athletes:Kaitryn Power, Fontbonne AcademyKaitryn joined the Emerging Elites Development Program this past summer going into her junior year. In that one summer, she has improved her cross-country time by over two minutes! She had a very strong season, running all season as the number 2 Fontbonne harrier, behind Chrissy Meagher. She had a great race at the MSTCA Invitational, where she broke 22 minutes for the first time and placed 63rd overall. Kaitryn was named a Catholic League All-Star for Fontbonne.
Jenny Donnelly, Noble & Greenough SchoolJenny, a sophomore at Noble & Greenough, joined Emerging Elites Development Program at the end of this year’s cross-country season. She made a strong showing in the NEPSTA D2 Championships, placing 7th overall, and was named All New England and All ISL.
John Bleday, Xaverian BrothersIn his freshman season, John found himself splitting time between the varsity and freshman team. He is the younger brother of Emerging Elite High Performance Athlete Alec Bleday, who is an 800-meter specialist at University of Pennsylvania.
John Fisher, Xaverian BrothersJohn, who played on the football team in his freshman year, ran a very strong rookie cross-country season for Xaverian this fall. He is one of three Sophomore Amigos for Xaverian.
Peter Dolan, Xaverian BrothersDuring his sophomore season, Peter not only ran a very consistent season, but is also one of three Sophomore Amigos for Xaverian. He is one of the tallest cross-country runners to ever be in the Emerging Elites program.
Joyce Tse, Noble & Greenough SchoolJoyce worked hard all summer, splitting her time between basketball camps and an overseas vacation. In her sophomore season, she was a significant contributor to the best Nobles & Greenough cross-country team in the school’s history, which placed 1st at the NEPSTA D2 Championships.
Arielle Rabinowitz, Buckingham Brown and NicholsArielle, who is a former national caliber figure skater, showed tremendous progress during her freshman cross-country season. Just last June, Arielle found running a mile a necessary challenge, but after training hard all summer, she was able to compete very successfully this season.
Callie Moriarty, Winsor SchoolCallie, during her sophomore season, adjusted to her new taller frame. She is a critical member of the now highly competitive Winsor cross-country team.
