October 2, 2006 – EMERGING ELITES OFF TO A PROMISING START The hard work over the summer of the Emerging Elites is paying off as their fall seasons are now fully underway. The weather has been more than agreeable so far for many of their meets. Let's hope this continues as the athletes continue to push themselves at each meet in order to realize their personal goals during this cross-country season. The High Performance Group is creating a buzz around the state in their high school competitions, while the Developmental Group has improved tremendously and is contributing to the success of their high school teams. High Performance Athletes:Samantha Chase, Dana Hall School Dana Hall vs. Lexington Catholic Sam has found her race pace early this season. In her first meet of the season she was able to beat the competition and placed first against Lexington Catholic. Dana Hall has gone ahead to defeat Chapel Hill, Landmark, and Winsor. Christine Meagher, Fontbonne AcademyManchester Invitational Dual Meet vs. Notre Dame Boston Invitational Chrissy started her season off with a bang, placing ninth at the highly-competitive Manchester Invitational. She continued her successful season a few days later by breaking the Fontbonne Academy School course record at the Dual Meet on the 26th. Chrissy’s hard work all summer is showing through her improvement as she looks forward to a successful senior year at Fontbonne. Mark Amirault, Xaverian BrothersManchester Invitational Mark is already spreading the name ‘Amirault’ throughout local newspapers this season. Breaking his personal best record from last year’s state meet, Mark placed first among the seventeen competing teams. Boston Invitational Mark is sweeping out his competition, placing first at the Boston Invitational and improving his time by a dramatic 30 seconds than one year ago. He comfortably pulled away from the rest of the runners after an opening mile of 4:33.
Developmental Program Athletes:Peter Dolan, Xaverian BrothersCatholic Memorial Meet The strongest of the young Xaverian Brothers trio, (Peter Dolan, John Bleday, and John Fisher), Peter began the first mile of the Catholic Memorial Race with a time of 5:08. He held onto this impressive start to finish at 17:27. Boston Invitational This was a great performance for Peter, running a challenging course in under 17:00. John Fisher, Xaverian BrothersCatholic Memorial Meet John is a newcomer to the sport of cross-country; last season he was found on the gridiron. He started out the first mile of the Catholic Memorial Meet just a few seconds ahead of John Bleday, and ended up finishing with an impressive time of 17:51. Boston Invitational John continues to learn cross country racing. Given a cool day on Saturday, he ran his best race at 17:17. John Bleday, Xaverian BrothersCatholic Memorial Meet Fiery freshman John Bleday had a strong start to his cross-country season at the Catholic Memorial Meet, finishing in 18:19. He ran the first mile of the race in 5:16, which is his second fastest mile ever, showing great improvement in his running! Boston Invitational John placed first this past weekend in the freshmen race at the Boston Invitational breaking Mark Amirault’s record of 10:29. He looks to eclipse the high school records of his older brother, Alec, a 2006 Xaverian graduate and a current UPenn freshman. Joyce Tse, Noble & Greenough SchoolNobles vs. St. Paul’s, Thayer, and St. George’s Even while fighting a cold, Joyce started off her junior year at Nobles and second year running cross-country with a solid time and placement at a home meet versus rivals St. Paul’s, Thayer, and St. George’s. Next up is Milton, Middlesex, and St. Mark’s. |
