Olympiastadion

Since its reopening in August of 2004, more than 300.000 visitors from around the world come to the Olympiastadion Berlin every year, thus making the stadium one of the most frequented sights of Berlin.

The Olympiastadion was constructed for the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. With a brand new 100,000-seat track & field stadium, it was the first Olympics to offer live television coverage & radio transmission to 41 countries in 28 languages.  It also marked the first Olympics with an Olympic torch relay traveling from Olympia, Greece.

Apart from its Olympic recognition, the stadium also bosts a strong football tradition, hosting the 1974 & 2006 FIFA World Cup and the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.  In 2009, Olympiastadion hosted the 12th IAAF World Championships.  Today, it is home to the Hertha Berliner Sport-Club.

Olympiapark

After the start of the 5K@EASD, participants will exit the Olympiastadion and enjoy views of Olympiapark Berlin – terrain that represents a diverse history in sports, culture and architecture.  Maifeld, a large lawn located next to Olympiastadion, served as the staging area for polo and equestian dressage events during the 1936 Olympics.

Located onsite is the Glockenturm bell tower, a famous landmark of the area in Grunewald.  The observation deck at the top of the tower provides a panoramic view of Berlin - from Spandau in the west to the Alexanderplatz in the East. On a clear day, you can even see Potsdam and the Müggelsee.
